When syncing a windows User profile folder, there are some paths withing the profile folder that will not sync, or are not desirable to sync. To exclude these folders, take the following steps:
- Add the user profile to Resilio, but don’t connected to the destination system yet.
- In the shared folder (eg. C:\Users\jdoe), open the \.sync\IgnoreList file (eg. C:\Users\jdoe\.sync\IgnoreList) in Notepad.
- Add the following lines to the file:
# Hidden folders \.* # Application Data \AppData # Registry Hives \NTUSER.* \ntuser.* # Compatibility Hard Links \Application Data \Cookies \Local Settings \My Documents \NetHood \PrintHood \Recent \SendTo \Start Menu \Templates \Documents\My Music \Documents\My Pictures \Documents\My Videos # Misc Folders \Saved Games \Searches
- Restart Resilio Sync
- Connect the folder in Resilio on the destination system.
If you want to include select folders within the AppData folder, you can use the whitelist prefix (!). Whitelist rules take override other rules, so when you want to whitelist a specific child folder, you need to include additional ignore rules for sibling folders. For instance, if you want to whitelist the \AppData\Roaming\Notepad++ folder, you need to add the following:
!\AppData # Whitelist the AppData folder \AppData\* # Ignore all subfolders !\AppData\Roaming # Except this one \AppData\Roaming\* # Ignore all subfolders of Roaming !\AppData\Roaming\Notepad++ # Except this one
